Residential Tenancies Law and Practice deals with residential tenancy law in New South Wales and the associated procedures in the Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal of NSW. The book comprises a self-contained unit for research and for attendances at the Tribunal. It is intended for use by people who wish to obtain a more detailed understanding of residential tenancy law beyond that contained in good consumer manuals such as Tenants Rights Manual. Readers will include solicitors practising in this area of law, realestate agents, landlords, tenants, and community advice centres. It contains: The full text of the relevant residential tenancy legislation in NSW as well as the full text of the Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal Act and Regulations. Each statutory provision is annotated with descriptions of the cases that have been decided in relation to that provision. The annotations on the Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal Act and Regulations, to help readers understanding the manner in which the procedures of the Tribunal will be applied. A table covering the amounts of compensation awarded by the Tribunal and courts for various breaches of the residential tenancy agreement by parties to the agreement, as a guide to parties before the Tribunal of the level of compensation that may reasonably be expectedin similar cases. A table outlining the circumstances the Tribunal has found to be relevant in the past in considering whether to evict tenants. The legislation and case law is up to date to 31 July 2008.
Allan Anforth Allan Anforth is a barrister at the ACT Bar who practices nationally in federal administrative law, employment law, human rights and welfare law generally. He has been a part time member of the NSW Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal and its predecessors for the past 17 years principally concerned with residential tenancy disputes. He is presently also a part time senior member of the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Veterans Review Board (Cth). Mr Anforth was previously a part time member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (Cth); part time president of the former ACT Consumer and Trader Tribunal; part time member of the former ACT Residential Tenancies Tribunal; part time member of the former ACT Essential Services Consumer Council; senior solicitor at the Welfare Rights and Legal Centre and Director of the ACT Council of Social Services. He is the editor of the book series Social Security and Family Assistance Law (with Peter Sutherland - now out of print). Peter Christensen Peter Christensen is currently Manager, Legal Support with the ACT Department of Education and Training. Peter first became involved in residential tenancies law when he joined the Welfare Rights and Legal Centre in Canberra in 1994, when he regularly appeared in tenancy matters before the MagistratesaEURO (TM) Court, and later the ACT Residential Tenancies Tribunal. During a short sojourn in a community legal centre in Nowra, he appeared in tenancy matters before the NSW CTTT. Peter moved back to Canberra in 2001 as Legal Advisor to the Commissioner for Housing where he appeared for Housing ACT before the Residential Tenancies Tribunal and the ACT Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He has maintained his interest is residential tenancies matters since leaving Housing ACT in 2006. Bill Taylor Bill Taylor is a solicitor who has been in general practice in the Bega Valley in New South Wales for twenty nine years. He is a part-time member of the New South Wales Consumer Trader and Tenancy Tribunal. Bill has also been an ABC Broadcaster, a local government councillor and farmer. He has served as a director of a not for profit aged care company and a social housing tenancy scheme.
