Offers a concise and focused way to ensure students gain an understanding of the most important areas of tort. This text explains the importance of extracts, showing how materials might be used in a problem-solving context. This book offers a concise and focused way to ensure students gain a solid understanding of the most important areas of tort. With the emphasis on problem-solving and method, each chapter, section and extract is introduced by an author's note and each extract is then linked to the next by notes and reflective questions. The notes concisely explain the important of each extract, showing how such material might be used in a problem-solving context. The notes and questions also point the way to further reading and research, thus making the book a vital link between the lecture hall, the physical and electronic libraries and the factual situations that create tort litigation. Uniquely, the book also draws upon the growing European influences that the judges themselves are now finding of importance in difficult cases.

Geoffrey Samuel is a Professor in the Kent Law School and a visiting professor at the Sorbonne and other European institutions. He is also the author of Understanding Contractual and Tortious Obligations. His interests range from comparative law and legal theory to contract, tort and restitution, with a special emphasis on legal reasoning. Professor Samuel holds doctorates from Cambridge and Maastricht and an honorary doctorate from Nancy.
