This book explores, from both an historical and comparative perspective, the manner in which inheritance laws have interacted - and continue to interact - with the concepts of both "family" and "property". It focuses in particular on how this "family protection" function of inheritance law has been balanced with the potentially conflicting interests of both property owners and wider society.
