Since the SRA Handbook was published in October 2011 there have been a number of changes and amendments to the Handbook. To ensure you keep up-to-date with these changes and to access the most recent version of the Handbook visit http://www.sra.org.uk/handbook/ On 6 October 2011 the biggest change to law firm regulation in decades will come into effect with the introduction of the SRA Handbook. The SRA Handbook will cover every aspect of the regulation of firms and individuals who are authorised by the SRA. Solicitors and their practices will need to prepare in advance of the October implementation to ensure compliance. The SRA Handbook crystallises the SRA's risk-based and outcomes-focused approach that has been adopted to ensure that clients receive services in a manner which best suits their needs. Ensure you understand the fundamental changes in the SRA's approach and your obligations with help from the SRA Handbook.
It comprises the: - Principles - the ten mandatory Principles define the fundamental ethical and - professional standards expected of all firms and individuals - Code of Conduct - the Code outlines the mandatory outcomes and non-mandatory indicative behavioursA" which, when achieved, help ensure compliance with the Principles - Accounts Rules - containing the SRA Accounts Rules that detail the requirements in place to protect client money - Authorisation and Practising Requirements - this section addresses the training and admission requirements for individuals intending to become solicitors; exercising higher rights of audience; for individuals and firms setting up in practice; and for the holding of certain roles in a practice - Client Protection - contains the key elements for the financial protection of clients - Discipline and Costs Recovery - outlines the provisions upon which the SRA's disciplinary and costs recovery powers are based - Specialist Services - details provisions applicable only in relation to certain services provided to clients.
