The ¡Anda! program is based on the National Foreign Language Standards. The five organizing principles (the 5C’s) of the Standards for language teaching and learning are at the core of ¡Anda!: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. Each chapter opener identifies for the instructor where and in what capacity each of the 5C’s are addressed.

The ¡Anda! program provides practical responses to the challenges today’s Spanish instructors are facing. Its innovations center around three key areas:

Anda! Curso intermedio moves students to higher levels of speaking proficiency by adding detailed conversational strategies in ¡Conversemos. This section focuses on language functions, helping students put the language to use in a natural, conversational way. In Chapters 6 and 12 scoring rubrics allow both students and instructors to assess speaking proficiency.

¡Anda! Curso intermedio takes recycling a step further with the Repaso boxes, which offer brief review summaries of concepts from Elementary Spanish. They also reference the Elementary Spanish Vocabulary and Grammar Appendices at the end of the text, where full explanations can be found. Icons placed throughout the text also guide students to the appendix pages that are relevant to what they are doing at that point.

Letras, a Literary Supplemental Reader, gives instructors the option of including authentic literature in their Intermediate course. The readings correspond to the chapter themes and include short stories, poems, plays, and novel excerpts written by writers from various parts of the Spanish-speaking world, including the United States. All readings are accompanied by process-oriented activities and strategies that focus on literary terminology to ensure that students are reading as effectively as possible.
