This book features a collection of reviews focusing on interrelated topics in nanophotonics, nanotechnology, nano-optics, and near-field optics written by some of the world's leading scientists in these fields. This book discusses recent developments both fabrication and applications of nanomaterials with sub-nanometer scale. Additionally, it reviews selected topics in the areas of THz nanoscopy and ultrafast spectroscopy of nanomaterials. This book also reviews recent advances in low-threshold silicon Raman lasers based on high-Q photonic crystal nanocavities. Finally, this book reviews artificial structural colours, emphasising both physical effects and fabrication issues.

Takashi Yatsui received his B.E. degree from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan in 1995 and M.E. and D.E. degrees from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan in 1997 and 2000, respectively. From 1999 to 2000, he was a research fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. From 2000 to 2008, he was a researcher at the Japan Science and Technology Agency, Tokyo. From 2008 to 2020, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo. In 2020, he joined Toyohashi University of Technology as a Professor. His current research interests include nanophotonic chemical reactions using optical near-field and their application to nanophotonics and quantum optics based on a diamond color center. Dr. Yatsui is the recipient of the following awards: 1st prize in the best paper contest from the IEEE Student Branch at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (1998), Excellent Research Presentation Award from the Japan Society of Applied Physics (2000), Tejima Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Tejima Foundation (2001), the GottfriedWagener Prize (2010), Osaka University Kondo Prize (2012), Erlangen Innovation Award Optical Technologies (2012), the Ichimura Prize in Science for Distinguished Achievement (2016), Optical Engineering Award (Takawano Award) from JSAP (2019), DOCOMO Mobile Science Award (2021).
