The incredible, moving true story of how one woman's commitment to kindness in action started a movement that has saved nearly 700 Asiatic moon bears to date, as well as countless dogs, elephants and other animals across China and Vietnam
"My first encounter with a moon bear changed my life forever..."
It was a single, life-changing moment - holding the paw of a distressed, captive moon bear - that ignited Jill Robinson's mission to rescue the stoic and majestic Asiatic black bear and end the cruel practice of bile farming. Starting from nowhere, but with the passionate support of a few brilliant friends and advisors, it would take plenty of blood and sweat, and many tears, to put her plan into action. Jill knew that she couldn't rest until she had found a way to help these innocent animals, providing them with a sanctuary where they could live out the rest of their lives in peace, free from suffering and exploitation.
From her early days of undercover activism in Hong Kong, Jill went on to establish Asia's first animal therapy program, Dr Dog, and then to found Animals Asia - a charity that would work tirelessly to rescue the continent's captive bears. As their efforts started to pay off, Jill and her team knew that it wasn't just bears who needed their help - they would also save as many street dogs as possible, and work to free as many Asian elephants as they could along the way.
No Bear Left Behind is a powerful and hopeful testament to the enduring power of compassion, courage, and radical care in action. It is a story of cruelty and compassion, of injustice and redemption, and of how one person's unwavering determination in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges can inspire a movement to change the world.
Jill Robinson MBE, Dr.med.vet. h.c., Hon LLD, Founder and CEO of Animals Asia, is a leading public figure in the world of animal welfare and conservation. A pioneering advocate for animal rights in Asia since 1985, Jill is widely recognized as the world's leading expert on the cruel bear bile industry, having campaigned against it since 1993. She is credited with bringing about the total ban on bear bile extraction in Vietnam, and continues to engage with the Chinese government, working towards the goal of ending the practice in China. Today, Animals Asia has rescued over 680 bears, caring for them at its award-winning bear sanctuaries in China and Vietnam. Jill continues to serve as CEO of the organization she founded in Hong Kong, which has grown into a respected international NGO with over 300 staff and offices in Australia, China, Germany, the UK, US and Vietnam.
