This book contains select proceedings of the 12th annual conference of Deep Foundations Institute of India, DFI-India 2023, held during 05-07 October 2023. The book showcases the advancement in deep foundation technologies through articles on research works and case histories under sub-themes:
1) Deep foundation and deep excavation techniques. 2) Sustainability practices in deep foundation industry. 3) Innovative techniques and testing for foundations and geotechnical investigations, monitoring, and performance. 4) Construction and QA/QC of deep foundations including case studies. 5) Ground improvement techniques. 6) Geotechnics for marine, near-shore, and coastal construction. 7) Innovations in experimental and numerical methods in deep foundations and ground improvement. 8) Futuristic technologies in deep foundations-large diameter piles, helical piles, monopiles, tiebacks, driving devices, etc.; legal and contractual aspects of deep foundation construction projects.
The articles covered in this book are of immense value to professionals and academicians for improving their work practice.
Dr. Jaykumar Shukla is presently responsible for coordinating the technical development strategy, geotechnical consulting assignments for the leading consulting and testing organization geo dynamics since 2019. With more than 20 years of experience, he is Principal Engineer presently and responsible for the geotechnical consulting and instrumentation areas. He has worked with Royal Haskoning India and Essar Steel Ltd previously. He is Recipient of university gold medal for undergraduate studies and obtained his Ph.D. from IIT Bombay. He is Executive Committee Member of Indian Geotechnical Society for the term 2019-2020. He is actively involved in research and development activities and has more than 30 research publication written in the national and international forums. He is also Member of Board of Studies of Civil engineering and Member of Faculty Board of Engineering and Technology of Charotar University of Science and Technology, Gujarat.
Dr. Dhananjay L Shah retired as Senior Professor from MS University of Baroda in the year 2017 after 40 years of academic service starting as Assistant Professor at BVM Engineering College, Vallabh Vidyanagar in 1987. He was Assistant Research Officer at Gujarat Engineering Research Institute, Vadodara, for about ten years before starting his academic career. Dr. Shah received several best paper awards for his more than 150 research papers published in the journals and conference proceedings. He also received IGS-Prof. Dinesh Mohan award for innovative geotechnical practices, during IGC, 2022, held at Kochi. Prof. DL Shah guided more than sixty M.Tech. students and two Ph.D. students. There are four published books in his credit apart from editing six conference proceedings. One of his books 'Grouting Technology in Tunnelling and Dam Construction,' was Published by Oxford and IBH Publishing Co., New Delhi, 1992 (ISBN 81 - 204 - 0735 - 9).
Prof. Deepankar Choudhury is Prof. T. Kant Chair Professor (HAG) and Head of Civil Engineering Department at IIT Bombay, Mumbai, India. Prof. Choudhury's major research areas are civil geotechnical earthquake engineering, computational geomechanics, sustainable foundation engineering, CPRF, soil dynamics, disaster resilient geostructures. His pioneering research on pseudo-dynamic method of analysis and design of earthquake-resistant geotechnical structures and dynamic formulation of Combined Pile-Raft Foundation (CPRF) is considered as fundamental engineering and scientific contributions. He was Secretary of technical committee TC 207 of International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), Secretary of TC 212 of ISSMGE, Editorial Board of ISSMGE Bulletin, Member of TC 203. He is Core Committee Member of several IS codes under CED-43 of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), IRCC code, and was one of the Main Creators of first ever international design manual on CPRF published by ISSMGE, recognized and appreciated across the globe.
