Explores various novel antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer chemicals identified from marine sources, and their potential applications in drugs for treatment of diseases. Covers topics such as the use of marine polysaccharides, marine biopolymers, algae and macroalgae, etc., in new drug development.
In response to the pharmaceutical industry’s growing need for new chemicals for drug development, researchers are looking at marine sources for novel bioactive natural products. Oceans are packed with bioactive secondary metabolites, drawing the attention of many scientists across the globe.

This new book, Handbook of Research in Marine Pharmaceutics: Exploring Oceanic Microbial Diversity for Human Health and Wellness, presents a range of novel antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer chemicals identified from marine sources, along with their potential applications in drugs for the eradication and treatment of diseases. The book covers topics such as the use of marine polysaccharides, marine biopolymers, algae and macroalgae, etc., in new drug development. The authors explore the development of cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals from the sea as well as the medicinal qualities of cyanobacteria in drug delivery and new drug development. The volume provides an important resource that details the chemical characteristics that are helpful in identifying new uses of marine natural products for new drugs.

Key features:

Provides an informative analysis of the global marine-derived drug industry and market
Presents the chemical characteristics that are helpful in identifying new uses of marine natural products for new drugs.
Discusses recent advances in extraction and separation methods of marine natural products for drug discovery
Reviews marine therapeutics with special attention to anti-cancer, antiviral, antimalarial, and anti-HIV traits

With its wealth of information, this book is ideal as a resource for researchers involved in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, and molecular biosciences. It will also be helpful to academicians and research students in colleges, research laboratories, industries, and universities.

Md. Faiyazuddin, PhD, a distinguished academician and researcher with extensive experience in working across government, public, and private sectors, seeks to leverage his 16-year background in pharmacy teaching, drug development, research consultation, and social pharmacy outreach activities in academia and industry. He is currently a Professor in the School of Pharmacy at Al-Karim University, Katihar, India. Dr Faiyazuddin has vast knowledge in various domains including pharmaceuticals, formulation research and development, medical, healthcare technology, and pharmaceutical education and research. He has been working in the area of nanomedicine for the last ten years and has published a number of research papers on nanomedicine in several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Faiyazuddin is an editorial board member of various national and international journals. In addition to his academic engagements, Dr. Faiyazuddin guides professionals on how to stay a step ahead of change and on adopting therapies to alleviate human suffering. Khalid Rehman Hakeem, PhD, is Professor at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After completing his doctorate (botany; specialization in plant eco-physiology and molecular biology) at Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, India. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Kashmir, Srinagar, India, at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Selangor, Malaysia, he was a Postdoctorate Fellow and Fellow Researcher (Associate Professor) for several years. Dr. Hakeem has more than 14 years of teaching and research experience in plant eco-physiology, biotechnology and molecular biology, medicinal plant research, plant-microbe-soil interactions, as well as in environmental studies. He is the recipient of several fellowships at both national and international levels. He has served as a visiting scientist at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. Currently, he is involved with a number of international research projects with different government organizations. To date, Dr. Hakeem has authored and edited more than 85 books with international publishers. He also has to his credit more than 185 research publications in peer-reviewed international journals and 80 book chapters in edited volumes with international publishers. At present, Dr. Hakeem serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several high-impact international scientific journals. He is included in the advisory board of Cambridge Scholars Publishing, UK. He is also a fellow of the Plantae Group of the American Society of Plant Biologists, member of the World Academy of Sciences, member of the International Society for Development and Sustainability, Japan, and member of the Asian Federation of Biotechnology, Korea. Dr. Hakeem has been listed in Marquis Who‘s Who in the World, from 2014–2020. Currently, he is engaged in studying the plant processes at eco-physiological as well as molecular levels.
