This book is intended as a teaching tool for beginning graduate students and new researchers interested in two seemingly divergent themes whereby one theme deals with synchrotron X-ray scattering and laser cross correlation function techniques, while the other theme is concerned mainly with the use of electrospun nanofibers.
This book serves as a teaching tool for beginning graduate students and new researchers interested in two seemingly divergent themes whereby one theme deals with synchrotron X-ray scattering and laser cross correlation function techniques, while the other theme is concerned mainly with the use of electrospun nanofibers for application to water purification. Together with recent reviews of several hundreds of references on the two themes, the monograph points out how we should adapt our education to new environments in the changing society.

Benjamin Chu is research distinguished professor emeritus at Stony Brook University (SBU), USA. He has been an international consultant at several organizations, including Brookhaven Instruments; Universities Space Research Association (USRA), NASA; Eastman Kodak, Tennessee; Roche Diagnostic Systems; Bristol-Myers Squibb; DuPont; WL Gore; Dow Chemical; and Toyobo, Japan. He is a recipient of several awards and honors, including AP Sloan Research Fellow (1966–1968), JS Guggenheim Fellow (1968–1969); the Humboldt Award for Senior U.S. Scientists (1976–1977, 1992–1993), APS High Polymer Physics Prize; honorary professorship at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1992); distinguished honor professor, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (2006); Gutenberg Lecture Award from Johannes Gutenberg University, Germany; and honorary Doctor of Law degree from St. Norbert College (2007).
