This book peers into the concept of conservation under the framework of sustainability. The world's architectural history is in danger due to a lack of understanding, expertise, and care. Some monuments have already been lost, and more are under threat. Heritage needs to be well understood, interpreted, defined, and managed for future generations, as it provides communities and cultures with retrospection, and contributes to recorded history. Additionally, it discusses the relationship between cultural heritage preservation and sustainable development, as well as restoration efforts for tangible and intangible cultural heritage assets. The book aims to assist professionals working in the field of heritage conservation, whether it is cultural, rural, architectural, tangible, or intangible. It stands to be a valuable resource for architects and engineers, as well as for conservators, archaeologists, environmentalists, and policy-makers.

Dr. Tarek Teba is an associate professor in Architectural Heritage in School of Architecture, University of Portsmouth, and the Chair for ICOMOS UK Digital Technology National Committee. Tarek is the course leader of MA Architecture: Building and Heritage Conservation and the co-chair of the University of Portsmouth Heritage Hub. Tarek's research concerns the conservation of tangible and intangible heritage through creating the balance between contemporary values via community engagement and historic, aesthetic, and cultural values. Tarek explores methodological approaches to preserve the cultural and contemporary social values embedded in heritage assets and cities in order to inform heritage conservation and regeneration. Tarek uses community engagement and cultural mapping as an informing tool and virtual modelling and digital heritage approaches as a vehicle to deliver heritage identification, valuation, adaptation, and development strategies.
