The proceedings of the 11th International Conference and Field trip on Landslides deal with landslides in soil and rock as well as snow and slush avalanches, and contain contributions from 18 countries.
The Proceedings of the 11th International Conference and Field Trip on Landslides deals with landslides in soil and rock as well as snow and slush avalanches. It contains analyses, experimental investigations and stability evaluation of landslides in soil. Case records with detailed surveys illustrate the topographic conditions and the movements that take place. Numerous case records from rock slides give new information about the extent of such slides and the geological conditions where such slides occur. The sliding mechanism is described and modelled and there is consideration of the climatic conditions which have a significant effect on the triggering of such slides. Several papers deal with the monitoring of snow and slush avalanches. Additional studies include models and experiments that contribute to an understanding of what happens in the field. Authors and co-authors from 18 countries contributed to this interesting collection of scientific work. The publication is an important addition to what has already been written on these topics and is a valuable reference for a better understanding of landslides and avalanches.

Kåre SENNESET graduated in Civil Engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH). He was employed at the Department of Geotechnical Engineering, NTH (now the Norwegian University of Science and Technology) as Laboratory Engineer, Associate Professor and Professor from 1961 until his retirement in 2000. He has been a Research Fellow and a Visiting Professor at universities in the Netherlands and the USA. Kaare Flaate graduated in Civil Engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology. He has a MSc and PhD from the University of Illinois, USA. He worked at NGI and was a member of the Board of Directors of NGI for 18 years from 1969 to 1986. He has held various positions as Soil Engineer, District Engineer and Director of Research in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration. He is an Honorary Member of the Norwegian Geotechnicial Society. Jan Otto Larsen graduated from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1970. He has a MSc from the University of Colorado, USA . He has worked as an Engineering Geologist at Norwegian Public Roads Administration, as a Senior Engineer at Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, and was also Research Fellow at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) 1996-2002. In 2002 he obtained a PhD-degree at NTNU. He is employed at Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Oslo as Chief Engineer and is an Associate Professor at the University Centre on Svalbard.
