This book takes an honest look at the fast-charging energy transition from the unique perspective of a solar space scientist turned oilfield engineer. How far are global leaders such as BP, Occidental, and ExxonMobil pivoting toward climate change? Did ExxonMobil really try to deceive people about climate change? Is the urgency about climate change as dire as climate aficionados are saying? These are just some of the questions that drive the discussion. This book is intended for experts and lay readers alike, in order to educate all parties on the current state of fossil fuels, especially oil and gas, and their efforts to clean up carbon emissions along the energy transition road. The book, which includes both US-centered and global perspectives, takes a look at historical data and projections for the future, and is a must read for anyone who wants to better understand the reality of climate change in the oil and gas world.

Dr Ian Palmer is a partner of Higgs-Palmer Technologies, and is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. He consulted as a petroleum engineer all over the world in shale gas, coalbed methane, well completions and production, and hydraulic fracturing. He was most recently a Geomechanics Specialist with BP in Houston, USA, where he worked on weak sand formations to stop sand from coming into a well. He has published over 100 papers, many of them in peer-reviewed literature. He has given training courses to industry in shale gas and in coalbed methane. Ian has a PhD in space physics from Adelaide University, Australia, where he studied cosmic rays from the sun. Dr Palmer's recent professional book is called The Shale Controversy, which is about the shale oil-and-gas revolution, including large sections on fracking and on climate change. His recent novels include Hiking toward Heaven and FracMan Conflicted.
