In the continuous pursuit of optimizing performance, development of advanced materials with highly specific properties has consistently been a critical component of aerospace engineering’s research. Aerospace Materials: Novel Technologies and Practical Applications puts strong emphasis on updating existing knowledge of a wide range of functional and structural materials and contextualizing it for industrial practice.
The volume not only comprehensively covers different classes of materials, while providing an overview of each material’s mechanical and physical properties, as well as processing and testing, but also offers state-of-the-art guidance on their commercial use in the sector. Furthermore, it looks ahead to clarify what’s still needed to adapt traditional and novel materials to ever-changing aerospace technologies and related pressing sustainability challenges.
The breadth of technical expertise that this international group of researchers provides proves to be an invaluable asset for users in academia and established professionals alike.

Prof. Mohamed Thariq Hameed Sultan received his PhD from the University of Sheffield (UK). He has 18 years of experience in teaching as well as in research. His research interests include hybrid composites, advanced materials, structural health monitoring, and impact studies. He is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers of Malaysia, a Professional Technologist registered with the Malaysian Board of Technologists, and a Charted Engineer registered with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers of the United Kingdom. He is also the current Director of UPM Press. He actively publishes both journal papers and books and has received many awards both locally and internationally. Dr. Marimuthu Uthayakumar is a certified Mechanical Engineer and obtained his Master of Engineering in Production Engineering from the Thiagarajar College of Engineering (Autonomous), Madurai, India. His PhD research focused on bimetallic piston machining at the Department of Production Engineering, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli. He actively publishes in international journals and has recently successfully completed a research project in collaboration with the Department of Atomic Energy-Board of Studies in Nuclear Science (DAE-BRNS), DRDO, MoEF, & CC, and another one with the Polish Academy of Sciences. He is now taking part in the Advanced Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) development program sponsored by the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology (DST). Dr. Kinga Korniejenko has a PhD in Innovation Management and another in Materials Engineering. Her research interests include innovation management, materials engineering, composite materials, bio-ceramics, as well as materials for 3D printing technology. She has experience in the coordination of national and international projects (including ERASMUS+ and ERA.NETs). Prof. Peter Madindwa Mashinini holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), where he also served as a part-time Lecturer. Currently, he is a full-time Professor at the University of Johannesburg, where he teaches both undergraduate and honors students, supervises postgraduate students and post-doctoral research fellows, and has been Head of Department since November 2017. He had published several research articles in peer-reviewed ISI-Journals. He is a professional member of both the Engineering Council of South Africa and the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineering. His research interests focus on materials processing, welding, development of composite materials, and advanced machining processes. Muhammad Imran Najeeb holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is serving as a researcher, working in the field of structural engineering and materials. His research interests focus on composite structure failure analysis and nondestructive testing. Renga Rao Krishnamoorthy holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (UK) and is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia as well as a Professional Technologist registered with the Malaysian Board of Technologists and a registered ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE). He is also actively involved in engineering consultancy and research services with UiTM Technoventure Sdn. Bhd and network of industry partners. His research interests include structural fire engineering, nondestructive testing for concrete and composite structures, numerical simulation, railway infrastructures, smart materials, metals, structural health monitoring and sustainability studies. He is also the current Head of Unit at the Smart Manufacturing Research Institute (SMRI), UiTM. He has organized and conducted various seminars and training sessions for regulators, academicians, and engineers, while also actively publishing in international and local journals.
