Using a minimum of mathematics, this text provides a novel approach to the teaching of quantum mechanics, which emphasizes the application of quantum theory. The reader is then offered a unified picture of atoms, molecules and solids.
With a minimum of mathematics, this book provides a novel approach to the teaching of quantum mechanics. As many books mainly present the concepts of quantum theory, this volume emphasises the application of the theory, offering the reader a unifying picture of atoms, molecules and solids. Essential for all undergraduate physics courses, it will also be a most valuable supplementary text for postgraduate courses on quantum mechanics.

Professor Antonis Modinos taught quantum mechanics, physical electronics, solid state physics and statistical physics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He was a Reader at the University of Salford (UK) prior to his appointment as Professor of Physics at the National Technical University of Athens in 1989. Professor Modinos has written over sixty research papers in reputed journals of physics. His book on the quantum theory of matter is the result of teaching experience accumulated over many years.
