This book is an essential reading for students, researchers and non-academic experts dealing with environmental, economic and social science aspects of the circular bioeconomy and with sustainability in general.
Interest in issues surrounding sustainable production-consumption systems and alternatives to fossil fuels is booming. The circular bioeconomy is currently mainstreamed in policy-making, industry and academia as an important part of the solution to the climate crisis and towards the creation of more sustainable economies. Based on the University-level teaching and research experience of the four authors in Italy, Finland, and France, this textbook fills an important gap in the literature by providing an in-depth and unique guide to the circular bioeconomy. The chapters critically discuss the potential contribution of a circular bioeconomy to fostering societal and organizational transformations towards sustainability globally. This timely book joins a suite of important new titles on sustainability, environmental and ecological economics.

Piergiuseppe Morone is Full Professor of Economic Policy at Unitelma-Sapienza, University of Rome, where he works on green innovation and sustainable circular bioeconomy. His work regularly appears in prestigious innovation and environmental economics journals. He is Editor-in-Chief of Societal Impacts and Vice-chair of the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Scientific Committee. Dalia D'Amato is a Senior Research Scientist at the Finnish Environment Institute (Syke). She is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki and a member of the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science. Her work focuses on societal and organisational transformations based on a biodiversity-positive circular bioeconomy. Nicolas Befort is an Associate Professor of Economics at NEOMA Business School, where he is the Director of the Chair in Bioeconomy and Sustainable Development (NEOMA BS, Greater Reims, Marne en Champagne Chamber of Commerce, Paris-Reims Foundation, Caisse d'Epargne Grand Est Europe). His research work is at the crossroads of innovation studies, ecological economics, transition studies and organization studies at developing an economics of the ecological transition. Gülşah Yilan is a researcher at the Unitelma Sapienza University of Rome with a strong interest in life cycle assessment, sustainability analysis, and circular economy. Her recent publications appear in leading journals including Scientific Reports and Journal of Cleaner Production. She also acts as a guest editor for Current Opinion in Green and Sustainable Chemistry.
