Organic chemists repeatedly use physical properties to verify or establish organic structures. This text provides the background to apply spectroscopic data in establishing features of molecular structure. The focus is on four techniques: nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectroscopy (MS), infrared (IR), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS).
Organic Spectroscopy is a standard chemistry course that is offered each year to large numbers of seniors and beginning graduate students. They learn to efficiently solve problems of molecular structure determination by an integrated use of four primary spectroscopic methods: NMR, mass spectrometry, infrared and ultraviolet. Recentl the NMR component of the course has become much more important and for most people it makes up more than one half of the course. The author is an organic-NMR expert and his text will offer the reader the latest developments of these important techniques presented with much better pedagodgy.
