Prof. Mamata Mukhopadhyay holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Ohio State University, USA. She has taught at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Delhi, and Bombay in the capacity of Assistant Professor to Full Professor, and currently a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay . Professor Mukhopadhyay has been actively involved in teaching, research, design, technology development, and transfer for over five decades. Her teaching and research areas encompass thermodynamics, cryogenic engineering, supercritical fluid extraction (SCFE) technology, food processing with supercritical fluids, CO2-based processes for production of ultra-fine particles, and silica aerogels for drug delivery. She has supervised several B.Tech., M.Tech., and Ph.D. research projects resulting in more than seven patents, 175 publications in reputed peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings, three books, and two chapters. She has given consultations to a number of industries and successfully completed several research projects sponsored by the government and industries. For the first time in India, SCFE Technology was indigenously developed, demonstrated, and made commercially viable under her stewardship of the MHRD-sponsored Technology Development Mission Project (1993-1998) on SCFE Systems Design for Commercialization. The commercial prototype SCFE pilot plant developed by her has won unique global recognition, as it has been an illustration of cost-effectiveness of SCFE Technology in India. She has developed several innovative SCF CO2-based Processing Technologies for Nutraceutical Concentrates including a gaseous CO2-pressurized hot water extraction technology, for production of natural sweetener from stevia leaves, and built a prototype pilot plant for technology demonstration and commercialization.
Dr. Anuradha Chatterjee was awarded her Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay in 2006. After completing postgraduation as a rank holder in the field of Cytogenetics and Molecular Biology from the University of Mumbai, she ventured into the discipline of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay. Her research work based on her Ph.D. dissertation: "Sterilisation and Stabilization of Food Products using Supercritical Carbon Dioxide" resulted in two patents and a number of technical publications. She has been involved in imparting technical education in the disciplines of science and engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, she has been actively participating in applied research on inactivation of microorganisms and inhibition of enzymes by creating physical, chemical, and biological stresses in the environment. She has extensive experience in the area of pharma-competitive intelligence as well as editorial experience as an editor for scientific research papers.
