This book is for engineers and students to solve issues concerning the fluidized bed systems. This material helps to form the basis for university course modules in engineering and applied science at undergraduate and graduate level, as well as focused, post-experienced courses for the process, and allied industries.
This book is for engineers and students to solve issues concerning the fluidized bed systems. It presents an analysis that focuses directly on the problem of predicting the fluid dynamic behavior which empirical data is limited or unavailable. The second objective is to provide a treatment of computational fluidization dynamics that is readily accessible to the non-specialist. The approach adopted in this book, starting with the formulation of predictive expressions for the basic conservation equations for mass and momentum using kinetic theory of granular flow. The analyses presented in this book represent a body of simulations and experiments research that has appeared in numerous publications over the last 20 years. This material helps to form the basis for university course modules in engineering and applied science at undergraduate and graduate level, as well as focused, post-experienced courses for the process, and allied industries.

Professor Huilin Lu's research activities include computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and experiments of fluidized beds associated with coal conversion processes. His main research expertise is in the area of kinetic theory of granular flow and its applications, such as kinetic theory of binary mixture, kinetic theory of rough spheres and second-order moment method. He has received a number of national awards including 2011 National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Instructors Award and AIChE Particle Technology Forum’s PSRI Fluidization and Fluid Particle System Award (2019).Professor Dimitri Gidaspow is a distinguished university professor. His pioneering research has created a widely used capability for solving practical problems that are related to industrial fluidized-bed reactors with the help of fundamental multiphase flow equations. Dimitri has been a major contributor to the development of constitutive relations employed in these software products to describe gas-particle flow, such as those for drag and solids stress. His 1994 textbook, Multiphase Flow and Fluidization Continuum and Kinetic Theory Descriptions, published by Academic Press, is widely used by students and industrial practitioners all over the world. In 1985, he received the AIChE Heat Transfer and Energy Conversion Division's Donald Q. Kern Award. His contributions have been recognized through the Flour-Daniel Lectureship Award in PSRI Fluidization and Fluid Particle System by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) (2002), the AIChE Ernst W. Thiele Award (2005) and the AIChE Thomas Baron Award (2006).Professor Shuyan Wang's research activities are in the computational fluid dynamics (CFD), fluidization experimental design and petroleum engineering. She has published one book and over hundred international publications. She has received a number of national awards including 2012 Heilongjiang Outstanding Youth Science Fund, Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education of China (2011), Ministry of Education National Excellent Doctorial Dissertation awards (2011) and distinguished professor of Longjiang scholars (2013).
