This book investigates the rheology of paste in metal mines, which is beneficial for cemented paste backfill (CPB) technology. This book establishes a theory frame of paste rheology, including measurement of the rheological properties of paste, rheological behavior of full tailings in deep thickening, rheological behavior of paste in the mixing process, rheological behavior of paste in pipeline transportation, and rheological behavior of filling body. It aims to promote the development of paste theory, the innovation of CPB technology, and the research and development of CPB equipment to accelerate the construction of green mines based on CPB. This book is intended for researchers, designers, and engineering technicians. This book can also be a textbook for postgraduate students on mining engineering and other related subjects.

Prof. Wu received his B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Mining Engineering from Central South University of Technology, Changsha, China, in 1983, 1986, and 1991, respectively. Since Aug. 2006, Prof. Wu has been in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Science and Technology Beijing.

Prof. Wu was elected as the professor specially engaged under Chang Jiang Scholars Program, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and first- and second-level candidates of National 'Millions of Talents Project.. Prof. Wu was assigned as the director of State Key Laboratory of High-Efficient Mining and Safety of Metal Mines under the Ministry of Education, a specialist in resources and environment of 'Program 863,' a consulting expert in National Key Research and Development Program, the director of International Sci-Tech Cooperation Base (Beijing) for Green Mining Technology of Paste Backfill, and the chief leader of Innovation Team under the Ministry of Education. Meanwhile, he holds a concurrent position as the director of Mining Institute in China Metal Society, the deputy director of Mining Academic Committee of China Nonferrous Metals Institute, and a member in editorial board of Journal of Mining and Safety Engineering and Metal Mine.

Prof. Wu has long adhered to the frontline of teaching and research. He has devoted himself to the theoretical and technical research on safe, efficient, and green mining of metal mines, with the research area of granular dynamic theory, paste backfill, continuous mining. He has engaged in more than 50 projects, including those from National Science and Technology Support Program of China, 'Program 973,' the National Natural Science Foundation of China Key Program, and many projects supported by mining enterprises. Due to his academic achievements, Prof. Wu has obtained four second prizes of State Science and Technology Advancement Award and seven first prizes of Provincial and Ministerial Award. Prof. Wu obtained more than 20 Chinese invention patents and published more than 200 papers and four monographs. He was awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award of Rheology in China, National Excellent Scientific and Technological Worker, National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Supervisor, and Baosteel Excellent Teacher Award.
