Multidimensional Modulations in Optical Communication Systems
CRC Press (Verlag)
978-0-367-43333-8 (ISBN)
This book analyzes novel possibilities offered to the telecommunication engineer in designing tomorrow’s optical networks. Currently, optical and optoelectronic technologies make possible the realization of high-performance optical fiber communication systems and networks with the adoption of WDM configurations and both linear and nonlinear optical amplifications. The last step for increasing network throughput is represented by the implementation of multidimensional modulation formats in coherent optical communication systems, which enable increasing the bit rate/channel toward 400 Gbit/s/channel and beyond. Following this approach, the main emphasis is placed on innovative optical modulations.
Multidimensional Modulations in Optical Communication Systems is an essential guide to the world of innovative optical communications from the point of view of growing capacity and security. It guides researchers and industries with the aim to exploring future applications for optical communications.
"Silvello Betti was born in Gavorrano, Italy, in 1958. He received a Master of Science ‘cum laude’ in Electrical Engineering from the University “La Sapienza” of Rome. In 1985 he joined Fondazione Ugo Bordoni, where he was engaged with the Optical Communication Group as researcher. In 1998 he joined the University of L’Aquila (Italy), where he was Associate Professor of Electrical Communications. In 2001 he joined the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (Italy), where he was Associate Professor of Optical Communication Systems and Signal Theory, and since 2012 he is Full Professor. He is co-author of a book on optical fiber communications (S. Betti, G. De Marchis, E. Iannone, Coherent Optical Communications Systems, Wiley-Interscience, New York, 1995) and he is author or co-author of more than 130 papers published in international journals and presented in international conferences. Pierluigi Perrone was born in Matera, Italy, in 1979. He received a Master of Science in Electronic Engineer from the “Roma Tre” University in Rome, Italy, in 2004 and a Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineer from the University of “Tor Vergata” in Rome, Italy, in 2017. In 2007 he joined full time “Arma dei Carabinieri” working in the fields of telecommunications, computer networks, ICT and Information Security at General Headquarters (SOC and IT Operations Deputy Head). Since 2013, he is author or co-author of papers published in international journals and presented in international conferences (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-5741-1167). Since 2019 he is a LAB Professor at LUISS and LUMSA Universities. Giuseppe Giulio Rutigliano was born in Bari, Italy, in 1974.
