Dr. Zhai is a full professor of Architectural Engineering at University of Colorado at Boulder (UCB). He received his PhD in Fluid Mechanics from Tsinghua University (China) and PhD in Building Technology from MIT (USA). Dr. Zhai is a Fellow of IBPSA (The International Building Performance Simulation Association) and ISIAQ (The International Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate) and an active member of ASHRAE (The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers). He serves as an Associate Editor for Energy and Buildings Journal, and serves on the Editorial Boards of Building Simulation International Journal, Indoor and Built Environment, etc. He has received numerous distinctions, including the Young Researcher Award (2007) and the Research Development Award (2010) from UCB-CEAE, as well as the University Sustainability Award of Green Faculty (2008). Dr. Zhai was granted the Best Paper Awards by International Journal of Building Simulation in 2008 and 2018. He received the William Mong Visiting Research Fellowship in Engineering from The University of Hong Kong in 2009 and the Japan JSPS Fellowship in 2018. He was selected as a Distinguished Lecturer by ASHRAE in 2014 and was awarded the “Changjiang Scholar” Chair Professor by the Ministry of Education of China in 2015. Dr. Zhai has been teaching the course “CFD Analysis for Built and Natural Environments” at UCB for over 15 years.
