A state-of-the-art review from invited contributors. Subjects covered include: time domain analysis of electromagnetic wave fields by boundary; integral equation method; and transient analysis of thin wires and related time domain energy measures.
The art of time domain (TD) computational electromagnetics has grown significantly in the last decade, primarily due to the availability of highly powerful computer resources. However, there has so far been a lack of suitable literature on time domain computational techniques for solving transient electromagnetic problems via differential and integral equations. Consequently, the motivation for producing on this book arose from the need to fill the existing gap with a text on TD computational techniques that would cover major techniques widely used within the electromagnetic community. This is one of the rare books that covers both differential and integral equation methods in the time domain, and explores the state of the art in the field of TD numerical modelling of high frequency (HF) and transient electromagnetic phenomena.

Chapter 1 Time domain analysis of electromagnetic wave fields by boundary integral equation method: Introduction; Four-dimensional formulation of Kirchhoff's boundary integral equation for electromagnetic fields; Boundary conditions of electromagnetic fields in four-dimensional time space; Boundary element formulation of time domain electromagnetic fields; MPI parallel computation; Numerical Examples; Summary; References. Chapter 2 Time domain integral equation method for transient analysis of thin wire structures: Introduction; Time domain integral equation formulation for thin wire structures; Time domain energy measures for transient response; Root-mean-square measures for transient response; Space-time numerical solution procedures; Computational examples; Generalization to an arbitrary number of straight wires; Concluding remarks; References. Chapter 3 Time domain method and frequency domain applications: Introduction; Time-frequency domain transformation; Frequency data from time domain waveform examples; Time domain method for nonlinear load using frequency domain data; Chapter summary; References. Chapter 4 Finite difference time domain methods: Introduction; State of the art; Finite numerical schemes: an operational approach; Fundamental topics: convergence, consistency, stability and dispersion; Truncation conditions: Perfectly Matched Layer (PML); Unconditionally stable methods: ADI-FDTD; Material modelling; Geometrical modelling; Afterword; References. Chapter 5 Time domain hybrid methods: Introduction; The Finite-Element Time-Domain method (FETD); The Method of Moments in the Time Domain (MoMTD); Implementation of current sources in the FDTD and ADI-FDTD schemes; Hybrid method FDTD-FETD-MoMTD; ADI-FDTD/MoMTD hybrid technique; Examples of application; References.
