Hydrology is a key influence on water security, environmental sustainability, agricultural production, energy, and transport, especially in unique environments such as arid regions and the tropics, where degradation issues on water and land can threaten the livelihoods of poor communities. With implications in urbanization, landscape architecture, and sanitation, enhancing the practice of water use, management, and planning is imperative for the sustainable development of these regions. Hydrology and Water Resources Management in Arid, Semi-Arid, and Tropical Regions is an essential research publication that seeks to improve scientific understanding and sharing of data in hydrology and integrated water resources management of arid, semi-arid, and tropical regions in order to enhance water governance and alleviate reduction in the vulnerability of water resources systems to global changes. Featuring a wide range of topics such as hydrometeorology, sustainable development, and climate change, this book is ideal for researchers, technology developers, academicians, policymakers, government officials, and students.

Christopher Misati Ondieki is an independent research hydrologist who has served as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Geography, Kenyatta University, Kenya (1994- 2015). He earned his PhD in Meteorology from Nairobi University in 1994, having obtained his Masters in Hydrology from the VUB Belgium in 1985. Between 1987 and 1993, he was Research Hydrologist, Laikipia Research Programme, Nanyuki, Kenya, under the auspices of University of Berne, Switzerland with focus on ASAL hydrology. He has published widely. His research interests are in Hydrological processes and watershed management of river basins. He is a member of Hydrological Society of Kenya (HSK). Johnson U. Kitheka is an environmental consultant holding BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Geography and Hydrology from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the research, assessment and monitoring of both coastal marine and freshwater resources. Dr. Kitheka has also participated in the implementation of several projects such as the NUFFIC NICHE Capacity building project at the South Eastern Kenya University and the UNEP-GEF Project focused on addressing the impacts of land-based activities in the Western Indian Ocean Basin. He is also experienced in Transboundary Diagnostic Analysis (TDA), Integrated River Basin and Coastal Zone Management, Strategic Action Programmes on land based interventions and National Action Plans for coastal natural resources management. Dr. Kitheka has also published widely in refereed international scientific journals. He has previously worked with the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute as a Senior Research Officer and the United Nations Environment Programme as an Environmental Scientist and is currently the Dean of the School of Water Resources Science and Technology of South Eastern Kenya University.
