Sergio Petrera is Professor of Nuclear and Subnuclear Physics at L'Aquila University in Italy. He has been an INFN researcher in Rome, Professor of General Physics and INFN Director in Lecce, and Director of the Physics Department and Coordinator of the Doctorate in Physics in L'Aquila. Up until 1985 his research interests lay mainly in particle physics at accelerators. He was involved in several experiments at Fermilab and CERN, including the hybrid searches for charm in neutrino production and for beauty in hadro-production. Since 1985 his interests have focused on astroparticle physics, including studies of cosmic rays, searches for monopoles, atmospheric neutrino oscillations, and neutrino bursts from stellar collapses. He has been involved in MACRO at Gran Sasso and is now Science and Performance Task Leader in Cosmic Ray Phenomenology at the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina.
