The ocean is inhabited by a cast of characters stolen from fantasy, it's a dystopian world where dragons are real - is the womb of all life on earth.
This is a personal journey beyond climate change and extinction to celebrate the spectacular continuity of ocean life.
The ocean is the womb of all life on earth. It is beautiful and bizarre, violent and mysterious. Inhabited by a cast of characters stolen from fantasy, it's a dystopian world where dragons are real, and monsters are commonplace. Today's spectacular marine life has an ancient history preserved in stone - fossil strata that read like dramatic pages from the longest story ever told - tales of evolution, extinction, and surprising continuity. Having thrived a tumultuous 500 million years, this marine kingdom is now challenged by a new, arrogant and domineering life form. This book looks beyond the media focus on climate change and extinction to celebrate the continuity of ocean life. I'll take you on a personal journey to explore origins and destinies, from primordial soup to today's threatened oceans - towards a future we can influence. We always have a choice.

Wolfgang Grulke is an author and collector, previously an IBM executive and entrepreneur. Perpetually curious about the future, and the distant past, he lives in the space between the two. His business career has been largely focused on the future, as an IBM executive, a world-renowned futurist, speaker and author, and currently Chairman Emeritus of FutureWorld International, a global think tank. His business books include: - 10 Lessons from the Future: Your future is a matter of choice, not chance. - Lessons in Radical Innovation: Out of the box, straight to the bottom line. Both published by Financial Times/Pearson. Also available in Spanish, Chinese and Arabic. At the same time, Wolfgang has devoted much time to understanding vast expanse of life that stretches behind us. His life-long passion for the natural world has included marine biology, palaeontology, scuba diving, travel writing and underwater photography. Climate Change & the Continuity of Life Wolfgang has established what is now regarded as one of the world's premier fossil and natural history collections. Indeed, Sir David Attenborough was 'truly lost for words' on viewing this cabinet of curiosity. Wolfgang's natural history books share his passion and all-embracing sense of wonder. They reflect how nature is increasingly a source of inspiration for artists, architects, interior designers and product designers.
