This volume covers all of the chemical, physical, and catalytic properties of over 1000 mononuclear unbridged di- and trisubstituted ferrocenes. Central chiral nomenclature is employed for optically active compounds. The first, and largest section describes di- and trisubstituted ferrocenes with P-containing substituents. Their importance is based on their ability to influence the course of synthetic reactions for organic compounds as ligands of transition metal complexes, particularly for Ni, Co, Rh, and Pd complexes. The chiral ferrocenylphosphines are of special interest in that their optically active forms catalyse asymmetric syntheses in which compounds of high optical purity can be obtained (up to> 90% ee). The second largest section describes the di- and trisubstituted Li compounds. They permit the synthesis of ferrocene derivatives obtainable otherwise only with difficulty. The structure of the adduct, ÄFe(C5H4Li)2Ü3 . 2(CH3)2NCH2CH2N(CH3)2, is quite unusual and is illustrated in the volume. Disubstituted ferrocenes containing other metallic elements and all unbridged, trisubstituted ferrocenes are described. General reviews are given in most sections. The volume contains a formula index.
