For courses or labs in general chemistry that include a qualitative analysis component.
This software offers an easy-to-use simulation of a qualitative analysis lab and can be used for pre- or post-lab activities, to supplement wet labs, or to replace wet labs if time is an issue. The program is available both in single-user and networked versions. The application provides 25 cations that students can add in any order and in any combination. Students can add any of 11 reagents to separate and identify the cations. Over 1 x 1016 experimental combinations are possible. The results presented after each step are based on real data captured in the laboratory as pictures or video. Students record their observations in a lab notebook. There is a classroom management side of the network version that allows instructors to assign unknowns, review lab notebooks, and view students' automatically graded results.
Note: Sample the student version only—Contact Eliana Ortiz for adopters of the network version.
