This joint SEG/EAGE publication includes two 3D geologic models presented on three CDs, along with an accompanying paper that explains the project and demonstrates the many uses for 3D model data. This project is a result of collaborative efforts of geophysicists, geologists, and computer scientists from more than 50 organisations.
This joint SEG/EAGE publication includes two 3D geologic models presented on three CDs, along with an accompanying paper that explains the project. The salt model and some accompanying synthetic data sets are presented on one CD, and the overthrust model and accompanying data sets are provided on the other two CDs. Three-dimensional model data are useful for testing 3D processing algorithms (e.g., migration, velocity analysis, multiple suppression, etc.), understanding wave propagation in a complex 3D medium, choosing proper acquisition parameters, and testing various data-compression and data-transmission techniques. They also can be used for training and for benchmarking different hardware platforms. The CDs are accessible on computers using Macintosh, UNIX, and Windows operating systems.
