Within this project, simulation studies are conducted to quantify the dynamics of the investigated process, its possible modifications as well as to find conditions under which steady states can be reached fast. Two different process configurations are investigated: a single MSMPR crystallizer and two MSMPR crystallizers coupled via an exchange of their mother liquors. The latter concept is applied and tested for the first time in a continuous operation. Based on the results of simulations, a favorable operating window is found, which is then experimentally validated.
Additionally, a suitable experimental pilot plant is constructed, where challenges connected with the product suspension removal are addressed. Finally, systematic experimental investigations are carried out to find process conditions, where a continuous resolution can be achieved under steady state operations.
