This book is about field responsive fluids as smart materials, which includes magneto-rheological (MR) fluids, electro-rheological (ER) fluids and ferrofluids. It reviews the previous works and considers all the aspects that can help researchers and industries to choose proper materials as MR fluid constituents. Topics in magnetism and types of magnetic materials are presented. This includes the effect of magnetizable particles behaviors such as size, shape and density. The type of materials on the rheological properties is also compared for MR, ER and ferro-fluids. The second part of the book discusses advanced topics for MR, ER and ferro-fluids comparing some of the properties between the field responsive fluids. This book appeals to engineers, researchers and practitioners in the area of materials and mechanical engineering with interest in the field responsive fluids.

Abdollah Hajalilou
holds a PhD from Putra University Malaysia (UPM) at Institute of advanced materials technology (ITMA) in Advanced Materials and Engineering. Upon graduation, he worked for a few companies including Magnetic and dielectric companies and also served as a lead senior researcher on several advanced materials and mechanical projects. He is currently a senior lecturer and researcher at VSE Research Laboratory, Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. Other than his publications in ISI journals, he was also selected as outstanding reviewer from Journal of Materials Science and Engineering B in 2015.
Professor Saiful Amri Mazlan is a PhD graduate of Dublin City University, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, Ireland in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. He has held various positions as academic researcher and lecturer in institutions and universities. He has also advised and mentored several PhD and master students. Besides his highly cited publications, teaching experience, awards and patents record, he also holds various administrative responsibilities such as Vice-Chancellor, Dean, Assistant Director and Department Head at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Dr. Hossein Lavvafi
holds a PhD from Case Western Reserve University in Materials Science and Engineering. Upon graduation, he worked for a few companies including Aluminum manufacturing and a Metal Injection Molding company. He also served as a lead senior researcher on several R&D projects at one of the major players in the orthopedic industry where he was working on developing various advanced materials used in the orthopedic industry. Following that, he joined the department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toledo Medical Center.
He has authored several papers, patents as well as numerous international conferences. Dr. Lavvafi is a technical reviewer for multiple professional journals including Acta Materialia, Materials Characterization, Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Materials Science and Engineering: A. He is also the editorial board member of the International Journal of Dental Sciences and Research.
His experiences include (but are not limited to) Materials Selection, Alternative Materials, Metal Injection Molding, Laser micro machining, Shape Memory alloys, CoCrMo and stainless alloys. He is currently working on use of shape memory alloys in medical devices that can be clinically used for patients undergoing radiation oncology treatment.
Kamyar Shameli is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Chemical Engineering at the Malaysia-Japan International Institute and Technology (MJIIT) in University Technology Malaysia (UTM), where he leads research on process development for green nanotechnology for multifunctional applications. Green nanotechnology is at the focal point of Dr. Shameli's approach to pursuing research in nanotechnology (and molecular medicine) as he strongly believes in the total elimination of toxic chemicals in the production of engineered nanoparticles. He has authored over 125 scientific papers on related topics, with his major contribution to the field of nanoparticles, nanocomposites and bio-nanocomposites materials being the invention of the nano-catalyst for examination and control of chemical process systems. He is also a member of the Chemical Energy Conversions and Applications (CHECA) research Centre.
