This work reviews recent studies of the basic actions of ADP-ribosylating bacterial toxins, from diphtheria-toxin, pseudomonas aeruginosa exotoxins A and S, and cholera toxin, to pertussis and clostridial ADP-ribosylating toxins. The cellular entry mechanisms of the toxins are reviewed and further topics examined are the consequences of the protein modification by ADP-ribosylation and the use of the toxins as tools.
