David J. Elton, Ph.D., P.E, has taught civil engineering, specializing in geotechnical engineering, at Auburn University, USA, for more than 25 years. In addition, he practices as a professional engineer, has won the TRB Fred Burggraf award, and is a past-president of the North American Geosynthetics Society.
