Akira Hirose received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Yokohama National University, and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, all in electrical engineering. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, he joined the Plasma Physics Laboratory, University of Saskatchewan, where he is Professor and Director. He has authored and coauthored more than 300 journal articles. He is a Fellow of APS, IEEE, and the Royal Society of Canada (Academy of Science), and has been Canada Research Chair since 2001. Karl E. Lonngren received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has been a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics and Astronomy at the University of Iowa since 1965. He is the author or co-author of more than 200 journal articles and 5 technical books. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and the APS and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Citation from the University of Wisconsin.
