Dr. June H. Larrabee's career-long scholarly pursuits, including theory development, research, research utilization, and evidence-based practice, have focused on the quality of health care.In collaboration with a colleague, she developed and tested the Model for Evidence-Based Practice Change, which is a synthesis of theoretical and research literature about change theory, CQI principles, evidence-based practice, and research usage.Over the past 18 years, the author has functioned in four joint appointment positions between a university and a hospital, with responsibilities for developing and leading programs for improving quality through the use of the best evidence. Since 1998, she has functioned as the Clinical Investigator at West Virginia University Hospitals (WVUH), designing and leading the nursing research program which included evidence-based practice change by teams of nurses applying the Model for Evidence-Based Practice Change. The maturity of that program and the clear ownership of the program by the nurses was one contributing factor for WVUH being awarded Magnet certification in September 2005.
