Developments in imaging techniques have dramatically improved the detection and characterization of lesions responsible for endocrine disease. A real need exists for radiologists to understand not only the appearance in a range of pathologies that require investigation but also the strengths and limitations of each modality in each disease. In this system-based specialty, it is also necessary for general and organ or modality-based specialist radiologists to appreciate the clinical background of this disease-based specialty. Also, endocrinologists, endocrine surgeons, and general physicians seek a better understanding of these powerful new imaging tools available for the diagnosis of their patients after suffering from complex disorders. This book will aim to satisfy these needs for all those involved in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with endocrine diseases. Detailed accounts of the imaging of each part of the endocrine system will be preceded by a chapter on the clinical problems that have to be addressed by the imaging. State-of-the-art descriptions of the imaging will follow.
These will be well-illustrated, comprehensively referenced, and provide guidelines regarding investigative protocols. Clear opinions will be provided by acknowledged experts as to the advantages and limitations of each imaging modality in the given clinical setting.
