The author and editor of numerous professional publications and books, including Photoaging (Informa Healthcare), he is a past president of the American Society for Photobiology and the Michigan Dermatological Society. He is the founder and past president of the Photomedicine Society, and the 2007 vice president of the American Academy of Dermatology. He is the past editor-in-chief of Photodermatology, Photoimmunology & Photo-medicine. He received the M.D. degree (1975) from the Downstate Medical Center, State University of New York, Brooklyn. HERBERT HONIGSMANN is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria. Dr. Honigsmann is the author of numerous scientific publications and several books, a past president of the International Union of Photobiology and the Austrian Society for Dermatology, and past secretary of the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR). He received the M.D. degree (1968) from the University of Vienna, Austria. JOHN L. M. HAWK is Emeritus Professor and recent Head of the Photobiology Unit, St. John's Institute of Dermatology, St. Thomas' Hospital and King's College, London. He has written multiple scientific papers, book chapters and several books, as well as being former editor of the journal, Clinical and Experimental Dermatology. He is a founder in 1988 and past president of the British Photodermatology Group, served for many years as British Association of Dermatologists' press liaison officer, and is a founding committee member of the American Photomedicine Society, a member of the European Dermatology Forum, recent deputy president and Scientific Committee Chairman of the 2005 London European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress and past president of the Scientific Committee of the EADV.
