The 14 chapters of this book cover the topics every midwife needs to know about ultrasound. This new edition incorporates research with regard to practice and use of ultrasound, and expands on the subject of ethics with regard to the issues of informed consent and women's choice to have a scan.
Ultrasound is responsible for some of the major changes in the use of technology in obstetrics today. This book is a guide for practitioners wishing to undertake ultrasound scanning, now an integral part of antenatal care, as part of their midwifery practice. It provides an understanding of the potential of diagnostic ultrasound in obstetrics, its interpretattion and some of the constraints so that ultrasound can be used, when appropriate, to its full advantage. Written to introduce the use of ultrasound rather than describe the actual techniques, this book discuses the main applications and issues surrounding ultrasound in midwifery today.
