This video demonstrates the HyCoSy technique in a practical fashion and evaluates its potential as a ultrasound technique. It outlines the advantages of HyCoSy and proposes the techinque as a viable alternative procedure for early tubal screening.
The greatest cause of sterility in female patients is ovarian-based. However, in 30 to 40% of all other cases, the cause has a tubular nature. The advantages, as well as the risks, of the current techniques for diagnosis of sterility by laparoscopy and hysterosalpingography are well documented. Due to their invasive character, tubular diagnostics have long been relegated to the later phase of sterility diagnostics. However, the new techniques of ultrasound tubal investigation, by means of transvaginal hysterosalpingocontrast sonography (HyCoSy), gives a lower level of risk as compared to currently available ultrasound contrast agents. This video demonstrates the HyCoSy technique in a practical fashion and evaluates its potential as a new ultrasound technique. When compared with established methods, HyCoSy shows a number of clear advantages: no radiation, no anaesthetic nor expensive equipment are necessary. On this basis, HyCoSy is proposed as a viable alternative procedure for early tubal screening.
