Mohs surgery is a highly effective treatment for specific types of skin cancers; with a cure rate of up to 99% for certain cancers. It provides the most precise method for microscopic removal of all cancerous tissue from a cancer site, while preserving the greatest amount of healthy tissue. Most Mohs surgery procedures take place in the physician's office. The surgeon freezes, stains and prepares slides of specific parts of the excised tissue for microscopic analysis to ascertain whether all the cancer was removed during the surgery. If additional cancer is found the procedure is repeated until the site is histologically clear of residual cancer. This atlas is the only book available that reviews the histopathological findings of the most common Mohs cancers. In addition, the authors review: normal skin histology at various sites and in various situations, rare and unusual tumors and pitfalls and artefacts.
