This book provides a comprehensive review of the major theories underlying the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. All theories discussed are supported by the latest empirical evidence, and provide the basis for clinicians to develop effective treatments. Acknowledged as a disorder that is particularly difficult to treat, this volume offers a breadth of background on borderline personality disorder that will be highly relevant to academics, researchers and clinicians alike.

Dr. Mojgan Salavati has dedicated over two decades to working with patients who suffer from severe psychiatric conditions, with a particular focus on borderline personality disorder. Over these years, Dr. Salavati has developed a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by individuals with these disorders in her time providing extensive clinical care and conducting research. This book is the culmination of substantial clinical, educational, and research knowledge accumulated during these years of practice. Dr. Salavati graduated from the Iran University of Medical Sciences and completed advanced training at the Rahayee Psychology Center in Tehran, Iran.

Dr. Edward A. Selby, Ph.D., is a Professor and the Director of Clinical Training in the Psychology Department at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where he also directs the Emotion and Psychopathology Lab. Dr. Selby's work explores the roles of various forms of emotion dysregulation in the onset of adolescent and adult psychopathology, especially suicidal and self-injurious behavior, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and received extramural funding awards from the National Institute of Mental Health, the New Jersey Health Foundation, the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (NARSAD), and Janssen Pharmaceutica. He has also received significant private donations to support his work. Dr. Selby serves as the Editor-in-Chief for the International Journal of Cognitive Therapy, the official publication of the International Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and as Section Editor for Frontiers in Eating Behaviors. Dr. Selby is a licensed clinical psychologist in New York. He earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Florida State University in 2011 and completed his psychology residency at Brown University Medical School before joining the faculty at Rutgers.
