This volume, entitled "Progress in Hepatology", is a reflection upon the most recent experiences in Japanese research. Most of the work was presented at a meeting, held in Tokyo, in memory of Tadao Takahashi MD, Professor Emeritus of the Jikei University School of Medicine and a founder of the Japanese Association for the Study of the Liver. This book is intended to cover recent advances of hepatology in Japan. Other volumes, focusing on different subject areas in hepatology, particularly in Japan are expected to be published on an annual basis.
