Peter Brennan is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Portsmouth, UK with a personal chair in Surgery in recognition of his research and education profile. To date he has over 630 publications including more than 70 on human factors (HF) and patient safety. He is editor of 5 major specialty OMFS surgical textbooks including the 2 volume Maxillofacial Surgery (3rd Edition), Oxford Handbook of OMFS, and Operative OMFS. He is also Lead Editor for the recently published Gray’s Surgical Anatomy, bringing Henry Gray’s original 1858 concept of descriptive and surgical anatomy in to the 21st century. The book has rapidly gained international acclaim and was reprinted within 2 months of publication. In 2019, Peter was awarded a PhD entitled ‘Applying HF to Improve Patient Safety’ – likely to be the first of its kind in healthcare. He works with national organisations including the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, General Medical Council and HEE to help drive up safety and better working experiences. Additionally he has an MD thesis in cancer biology. Peter is committed to training and education from helping local trainees to speaking and teaching internationally. He has been Chair of the MRCS surgery exam in the UK and Ireland, and currently leads important predictive validity and differential attainment research for the 4 Surgical Royal Colleges. In recognition of his achievements and reputation, he was recently elected by his surgical peers to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, a first for the specialty of OMFS. Dr Rabindra Singh is a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with sub-specialty interest in ablative Head and Neck and microvascular reconstructive surgery. He is a fellow at the Higher Education Academy, UK and a member of the education faculty at the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is a keen surgical teacher and is the course director at an international cadaveric course in Head and Neck reconstructive surgery accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is an Associate Editor at the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with several publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters in reputable established publications in Oral & Maxillofacial, Plastic and Head & Neck surgery. Dr Singh completed his schooling in Nepal, following which he read dentistry at the University of Adelaide, Australia and medicine at the University of Birmingham, UK, before completing his higher surgical specialist training at various reputable hospitals in the UK. Professor Kaveh Shakib PhD, FRCS, FRCS (OMFS), FDS. Consultant OMFS and Honorary Professor, Royal Free Hospital, London and the University of Buckingham. Kaveh is a consultant OMFS with an interest in all aspects of OMFS including aesthetic and implant surgery. He has a PhD in OMFS research. He is the current editor of BJOMS and has extensive experience in Education, published widely on all aspects of OMFS. He is well connected in the Middle East, and across the world.
