Sexual Behaviours and Relationships of Autistics
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-030-65598-3 (ISBN)
This SpringerBrief provides readers with a comprehensive snapshot of contemporary research about autistics and their experiences and insights of sexual behaviours and interests. The authors use a scoping review approach to canvass the diverse literature on this topic. This approach shows many gaps in scholarly understanding about autistics and their experiences and insights of sexual interests and behaviours. Some of the gaps relate to sex education, gender dysphoria and gender reassignment surgery, pregnancy and childbirth, and domestic violence experiences of autistics. The book addresses these gaps and provides explanations and recommendations for further research.
Matthew Bennett holds a PhD in disability studies from Flinders University, South Australia. His PhD examined the life experiences of adults who live on autism spectrum. He has also lectured in disability studies at Griffith University, Queensland. Matthew is an active advocate for the rights of people on the autism spectrum.
Emma Goodall is an autism author, researcher, keynote speaker and consultant based in South Australia. Emma combines her professional and academic skills and knowledge with her lived experience of autism to help people understand what it means to be on the autistic spectrum and how different life is for those on and not on the spectrum.
