Brings together clinical work on assessing driving capacity for different clinical populations and conditions. This book includes topics such as: traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, normal aging, medications, retraining, interventions, medical conditions, legal issues, practical issues, assessment instruments, simulators and research.
This is a resource for professionals involved in determining the driving capacity of individuals with neurological involvement and or trauma. While much work has been completed in this new and growing field, this is the first attempt to bring together clinical work on assessing driving capacity for different clinical populations and conditions. Specific topics include, traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, normal aging, medications, retraining, interventions, medical conditions, legal issues, practical issues, assessment instruments, simulators, research and epidemiology. Each chapter will address clinically relevant issues specific to the clinical population. This comprehensive compilation of driving assessment of cognitively compromised populations is the first of its kind and Dr. Schultheis is regarded as a leader in the field.

Dr. Schultheis is a clinical neuropsychologist and an Associate Research Professor within the Department of Psychology and the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems at Drexel University. She has published numerous manuscripts, chapters and other publications and has presented her work at various international and national forums. She has received several awards including the 2007 Early Career Award from the American Psychological Association (Division 40: Clinical Neuropsychology). John DeLuca, Ph.D. is the Director of Neuroscience Research at the Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Corporation (KMRREC), a Professor in the Departments of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R), and Neurosciences at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ-NJMS), and a licensed psychologist in the States of New Jersey and New York. Dr. DeLuca devotes 100% of his time to research, directing the Neuropsychology and Neuroscience Laboratory at KMRREC. He is currently studying disorders of memory and information processing in a variety of clinical populations including: Multiple Sclerosis, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Huntington's Disease, and TBI. Dr. DeLuca has published over 130 articles, abstracts and chapters in these areas. He served as the editor for the special issue of the Journal of Neurorehabilitation on multiple sclerosis. Dr. DeLuca is listed in Who is Who in Science and Engineering, 1994-1995. Dr. DeLuca is the recipient of early career awards for his research from both the American Psychological Association and the National Academy of Neuropsychology. He is the Chairman of the Ph.D. Postdoctoral Fellowship Committee in the Department of PM&R at UMDNJ-NJMS and directs the post-doctoral fellowship program in Neuropsychology in the Department.
