This book explores computational fluid dynamics in the context of the human nose, allowing readers to gain a better understanding of its anatomy and physiology and integrates recent advances in clinical rhinology, otolaryngology and respiratory physiology research. It focuses on advanced research topics, such as virtual surgery, AI-assisted clinical applications and therapy, as well as the latest computational modeling techniques, controversies, challenges and future directions in simulation using CFD software. Presenting perspectives and insights from computational experts and clinical specialists (ENT) combined with technical details of the computational modeling techniques from engineers, this unique reference book will give direction to and inspire future research in this emerging field.

Dr Kiao Inthavong is Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at RMIT University, specialising in computational modelling of respiratory flows with applications in drug delivery, and inhalation toxicology. He is co-founder of SCONA (Society for Computational Fluid Dynamics Of Nose and Airway) that is aimed at fostering collaboration between clinicians and engineers. Dr Narinder Singh is the Chief of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery at Westmead Hospital in Sydney (Australia's largest hospital complex) and Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at The University of Sydney (Australia's oldest and largest medical school). Dr Singh specialises in Rhinology (Surgery of the nose, sinuses and anterior skull base). He has a special interest in the use of CFD and AI in clinical ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) Surgery. Dr Eugene Wong is an ENT registrar based at the Department of Otolaryngology at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, Australia. Eugene has specific research interests in the impact of new technology in the field of Otolaryngology. He is currently undertaking a higher degree in CFD of the nose and paranasal sinuses under the supervision of Dr Kiao Inthavong and Dr Narinder Singh. Prof Jiyuan Tu is a world renowned leading expert in Computational Fluid Dynamics specialising in multiphase flows and with applications in respiratory flow, indoor environment, and nuclear power. He holds a professor role at RMIT University and Tsinghua University, and is Editor in Chief of the journal ‘Experimental and Computational Multiphase Flows’.
