Dr Meena Chakrabarti MS completed her medical education and residency from the Trivandrum Medical College as the best outgoing student of the batch. She completed her DNB and fellowship in the medical and surgical diseases of Retina and Vitreous from Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. She continued her tenure as Associate Professor of Ophthalmology (Dr. MGR University) and senior consultant at Aravind Eye hospital. Presently she is a senior consultant at Chakrabarti Eye Care Centre, Trivandrum. She is the recipient of the American Academy Achievement award (2012) and received the “Best of Show” video award at the Annual Meeting of AAO at Las Vegas in November 2015 and has several national awards instituted by the state and national society to her credit - Dr. E.T Selvam Award (AIOS 2007) for Best Poster , Dr. Tony Fernandez Best Video Award , Dr.Sankara Menon Best paper Award , Oasis-Drishti Best Video Award , Best Poster Award , Dr. Siva Reddy Award , Best Posterior segment Free Paper Award , Dr. Noel Moniz Award , and Dr K G R Nair Award . She is also the recipient of the National award for prevention of blindness instituted by NSPB for the year 2007 for her work in preventing blindness due to diabetic retinopathy. She has conducted over 500 public awareness and screening camps for diabetic retinopathy since 2005. She has authored chapters in several textbooks and is an active member of the Indian Diabetes Education Association (IDEA). She was the editor of the Kerala Journal of Ophthalmology, the official publication of KSOS, for a tenure spanning 4 years, chairman of the scientific committee of KSOS and is presently the President elect of the state organisationShe is also a reviewer for Retina Dr Arup Chakrabarti MS did his under graduation and residency in ophthalmology at JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & research), Puducherry, India. He completed hisfellowship at Aravind Eye Hospital Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India, in 1992 and continued as a faculty and Associate Professor in Ophthalmology till he started his private practice in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, in 1999. He is currently the director of Chakrabarti Eye Care Centre, a tertiary referral center in Thiruvananthapuram. His cataract practice focuses on challenging cases and premium IOLs and glaucoma. He was in charge of training in various Cataract Surgery programs while at Aravind. He is the recipient of achievement awards from AAO and APAO, gold medal from the IIRSI (Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India) and the Sante Vision Award instituted by AIOS. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of AIOS (2008-2014) and International coordinator of AIOS. He has been regularly conducting instructional courses at national and international levels associating himself with the AAO, ASCRS, ESCRS, APAO and AIOS. He is a reviewer for the JCRS and is on the editorial board of Delhi Journal of Ophthalmology. The son of a teacher, Dr Chakrabarti is passionate about contributing to ophthalmic education, by lecturing all over the country and has perfomed several live surgery demonstration. In his spare time, Dr Chakrabarti participates in community outreach programs reaching out to the underprivileged, and the needy for whom restoration of vision is a great step in getting a firm foothold on life.
