This volume contains the proceedings of Falk Symposium No. 76, held in Estoril, Portugal, May 5--7, 1994, and presents a modern aetiopathogenesis-based approach to clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic developments in inflammatory bowel disease.
The first section deals with the first results of a prospective epidemiological study in the EEC countries, while subsequent sections cover the most important factors responsible for IBD, diagnosis, controversies in clinical management, new insights into therapy, and difficult clinical problems.
The book closes with a state-of-the-art overview of the new knowledge as well as future perspectives regarding diagnosis and treatment. It will be of interest to all clinicians and researchers in this important area of gastroenterology.
