This work promotes understanding of grieving persons, encourages active coping and guides those who help bereaved persons. It argues that grieving is a process of relearning the world in the aftermath of loss. Real life stories are used to illustrate the power of this idea.
Thomas Attig promotes understanding of grieving persons, emphasizes respect for their individuality, encourages active coping, and guides those who help bereaved persons. Thomas Attig argues that grieving is not a clinical problem to be solved or managed by others; rather, grieving is a normal process of relearning the world (physical surroundings, relationships with others including the deceased and God, and oneself) in the aftermath of loss. This author utilizes real life stories to illustrate the power of the idea of relearning the world.

Thomas Attig is 1995-96 President of the Association for Death Education and Counseling. Formerly a professor of philosophy at Bowling Green State University, he has been teaching and writing about death, dying, grief and loss since 1974. He lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
