This book is designed as a reference manual that is exceptional in systematically discussing every aspect of nuclear medicine imaging of infections, with careful explanation of the most up-to-date concepts and recent guidelines on diagnostic flowcharts as shared between the EANM, ESR, ESNR, ESCMID, ESC, EACVI, ECCO, ESGAR and EBJIS. It is truly comprehensive, describing all methods, all acquisition parameters, and all interpretation criteria in all infectious diseases. The early chapters discuss currently available radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear medicine imaging technologies, including the hybrid modalities SPECT/CT, PET/CT, and PET/MRI. The remainder of the book is devoted to the nuclear medicine imaging of infections at different body sites as well as fever of unknown origin, fungal infections, and tuberculosis and AIDS-associated infections. Infections represent a real emergency globally, and early diagnosis and treatment follow-up will continue to pose huge challenges. In thiscontext, Nuclear Medicine in Infectious Diseases will be a superb asset for nuclear medicine and infectious disease specialists and other clinicians everywhere.

Prof. Alberto Signore, is presently the Head of the Nuclear Medicine Unit at Department of Medical-Surgical Sciences and of Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, University “Sapienza”, Rome, Italy, and Full Honorary Professor at Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, University Medical Center, Groningen, The Netherlands. He graduated in Medicine in 1984, then specialist in Endocrinology (1987) and Nuclear Medicine (1991). He obtained a PhD in 2007 at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. He is now also Consultant in Nuclear Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA; Treasurer of the International Research Group in Immunoscintigraphy and Therapy (IRIST); Past-Chair of the “Inflammation/Infection” Committee of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM); Associate Editor of the Q J Nucl Med Mol Imaging and Member of the Editorial Board of the Eur J Nucl Med Mol Imaging, Nucl Med Rev, J Clin Med and other journals. He is the Dean of the Faculty of Radiological Technician in Sora (Italy); Visiting Professor in Nuclear Medicine, University of Ghent, Belgium; Consultant of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of United Nation Organization (UNO); Past-President of the International Society of Radiolabelled Blood Elements (ISORBE); Secretary and Past-President of the International Research Group in Immunoscintigraphy and Therapy (IRIST); Past-President of the international scientific association Nuclear Medicine Discovery (Nu.Me.D.). Amongst the many awards and recognitions, it is to be mentioned, the recent award for best Basic-Science publication in the Journal of Nuclear Medicine in 2015; the “Marie Curie” award of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), in 2004; the “Masahiro Iio” award of the World Federation of Nuclear Medicine and Biology (WFNMB), in 1994. Dr. A.W.J.M. Glaudemans, MD, PhD (Male) is Associate Professor and Nuclear Medicine specialist, presently working at the Medical Imaging Center, department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging of the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands. He graduated in 1999, became specialist in Nuclear Medicine in 2008, and his PhD (cum laude) in 2014. He is involved in patient care, teaching, training and research. He is deputy head of the Department of NMMI. His expert areas, both in patient care and in research, are infectious and inflammatory diseases and tumor immunology.
